Dr. Elizabeth Maximin received her Master's degree with honors at a Taoist lineage school called the World Medicine Institute, located in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The school carried a branch of the Shan Tan school from China led under the direction of the 64th heavenly Taoist master, Chang Yi Hsiang (Lily Siou, PhD). The practitioner was trained to assist Shihfu Chang in her acupuncture and herbal medicine treatments and observed the use of medical qigong during treatment protocols. Later, Dr. Elizabeth taught acupuncture treatment strategies, qigong, and was a clinical supervisor. She has a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, signifying competency in East Asian Medicine, Acupuncture and Point Location, Chinese Herbology, and Biomedicine.

She earned a clinical Doctorate of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine, where she studied herbal medicine and qigong, with celebrated teachers in China and Taiwan.  Her research capstone was titled, "Methodologies of Cosmological Symbolism in Eastern Medicine", and included information from classical Chinese texts, mentored by Heiner Fruehauf.

Dr. Elizabeth has provided numerous health workshops across the state of Hawai'i and is a journal author.  Previously, she coordinated multiple programs in the non-profit field, providing services for youth and families and trainings to other professionals.  She was trained in motivational interviewing and trauma informed care, which carries over to her patients today. She also has a gold level Feng Shui certification with the International Feng Shui Guild.

In addition to acupuncture, her treatments may include, herbal medicine, cupping, guasha, moxibustion, bloodletting, electrical stimulation, tuina, and/or meditation, lifestyle and dietary education.
